A small question though, do you think it is a good idea to have manager himself as a mentor? Do you have mentors outside your company or working in the same company?

Yeah, definitely think that's a great idea! You should constantly be asking your manager mentor-like questions.
And yep, I've had a mix of both, mentors outside and inside the company
