The problem with New Year's planning isn't that we're doing it wrong - it's that we think there's a right way to do it. Let me share three perspectives that changed how I think about 2025
I've been thinking about how different people approach the new year. Jesse Itzler (serial entrepreneur, former rapper, and Atlanta Hawks owner) starts with a completely blank slate. His philosophy is to enter the New Year as light as possible, with one massive, year-defining goal - like training for and completing an ultra-triathlon. He then meticulously fills in his entire year's calendar, taking full control of his time. In contrast, Chris Williamson (host of the Modern Wisdom podcast with over 100 million downloads) takes a more reflective approach. He focuses on just two simple questions: what seemed productive this year but wasn't, and what seemed unproductive but turned out to be invaluable.
