Eight years ago, I experienced an epic hangover on New Year's Day. After a night of fine dining and hitting the town, indulging in my favorite champagne and scotch, we had to pay an obscene amount for a ride home. The next morning, it felt like someone had taken a sledgehammer to my head. The dogs needed walking, but all I wanted was to lie in the fetal position. That hangover lasted for the better part of three days.
As I lay in bed, trying every hangover cure to no avail, I resolved never to be hungover on New Year's Day again. The New Year symbolizes fresh beginnings as we emerge from winter (at least in the northern hemisphere), and there I was, trapped in a self-created hell.
