If debt is what you owe, equity is what you own.

In a recent article, we talked about the quiet anxiety of Career Debt. It’s the nagging feeling of being comfortably stuck. We talked about the “Debt of Comfort” and the “Debt of Silence.” It’s the invisible bill you pay for staying in a role too long or avoiding a hard conversation. But paying off your debt only gets you to zero.

The goal isn’t to be “not in debt.” The goal is to be wealthy.

If debt is what happens to you when you passively seek comfort, Career Equity is what you build when you actively hunt for productive discomfort.

If you are the CEO of your own career, then you have a finite budget of resources: Time, Focus, and Energy. The big question is how you allocate them.

I’d argue the smartest allocation isn’t just safe bets with marginal returns, but coupling those safe bets with asymmetric bets that build real, compounding leverage.
